Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

"The Federal Emergency Management Agency coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror" (About the Agency, 2016).

During Hurricane Katrina, FEMA created a project, which provided citizens, first responders and other personnel with high resolution maps, that showed areas that were greatly affected by flooding (Hurricane Katrina Overview, 2015).

Recently reported in the The Times-Picayune, a newspaper in New Orleans, federal government will begin assessing weather New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board spent grant money provided by FEMA accordingly. "To date, FEMA has committed nearly $1 billion to Sewerage and Water Board capital projects to repair Katrina-damaged infrastructure, according to a report delivered Monday morning at a board finance committee hearing. Of that total, the Sewerage and Water Board has received  $500 million in revenue as of Nov. 30, the report notes" ("Federal audit to prove S&WB spending on FEMA-funded Hurricane Katrina projects", 2017.)

While in the Museum, I didn't see as much as I would have hoped regarding FEMA, but because of Hurricane Katrina, there has been changes made to FEMA so that response to disasters or major events could be made quicker and more easily.
